Assigned to the Rhode Island Naval Hospital during the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Lorna witnessed history unfold firsthand. Later, her deployment to Vietnam as a young Army Nurse Corps officer thrust her into the heart of combat, where she tackled the unimaginable challenges of caring for soldiers in a war zone.

Her experiences in Vietnam marked a turning point in her career. Determined to make a difference, Lorna committed herself fully to the Army Nurse Corps, serving in hospitals around the globe for nearly 30 years. Her illustrious career culminated in her role as Full Colonel and Chief Nurse at the prestigious Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco.

Even after her retirement, Lorna's dedication to service didn’t waver. As a legislative liaison for the Military Officers Association of America, California Council of Chapters, she has become a tireless advocate for veterans’ rights in the California State Legislature. She is also an active member of veterans’ organizations such as Vietnam Veterans, AMVETS, and VFW, where she continues to lend her voice and expertise.
